WESMAR Announces $350,000 Order
Woodinville, WA –31 May 2011 – WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) today announced they have received a $350,000 contract for a four-fin, At-Anchor roll stabilizer system on a 179-foot Turkish superyacht currently undergoing converstion at a shipyard in Turkey. WESMAR said the contract is from Nautique Marine Group, a multinational company with branches in Turkey, the U.S. and the Netherlands.
Cary Jones, President of WESMAR’s Mechanical Division, said WESMAR partnered with the world famous Naval Architechtural firm of Mulder Design,* The Netherlands, to incorporate WESMAR’s new larger stabililzer actuators which will drive the four fins.
“The contract is for a complete WESMAR DSP4803 Stabilizer system, an At-Anchor design featuring WESMAR's powerful and fast, triple axis gyro system, which uses rate gyros and accelerometers to sample the speed and angle of a vessel’s roll at an unheard of speed of 4800 times per second. Regardless of a vessel’s design, or size, this system can respond instantaneously to the demands for quick turns in all types of seas,” says WESMAR President and founder, Bruce H. Blakey.
The DSP systems come in three models and the one selected for the luxurious M/Y TOUYA is the DSP4803 which provides digital stabilization, lift for high-speed boats and at anchor stabilization. At anchor, the system monitors incoming swells and automatically controls fin movement to reduce the effect.
“Our stabilizer systems give up to a 90% reduction in vessel roll. The fins are constructed from a composite structure of a fiberglass skin wrapped around high density structural foam and 17-4PH stainless steel shaft welded to a steel core plate, which makes them almost indestructible. The exterior of the fin uses a marine grade gel coat that provides a smooth finish and protection from the elements and is easily paintable to match the color of the vessel. The fin shape used is to NACA 0015 standard fin profile which provides optimum lift to drag ratios and geometric size,” said Jones.
A US manufacturer, WESMAR supplies marine systems including roll fin stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters, hydraulics, high-resolution sonar and underwater security systems to commercial and non commercial vessels and to governments and municipalities around the world. The company brings 45 years of research and development to its products and is headquartered in an 82,000 square-foot building in Woodinville, WA just outside Seattle where they maintain a sophisticated engineering design lab, prototype and test facilities, and a complete, modern and highly automated manufacturing department including a mold and computerized machine shop. From this facility WESMAR products are exported throughout the world. The company has been recognized several times over the years for their excellence in export.
